Syrian media: Israel launches airstrike near Damascus
Syrian media outlets have reported that Israel struck a military outpost near the Syrian capital of Damascus Tuesday night, killing nine pro-Iranian fighters.
Israeli fighter jets struck a Syrian army position south of Damascus, a pro-Assad commander said. There were also widespread reports of massive explosions and social media had pictures of fire and smoke in the area. Opposition activists in Damascus said there was ambulance traffic from Damascus to the site. "They are determined to do it and we are determined to prevent it". Israel then destroyed what it describe as the Iranian command and control center in Syria that dispatched the drone. The US president repeated the claim on Tuesday night.
"This wasn't just the turning down of the JCPOA [Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action] as it had been inherited from Obama, but it was the turning down of a tougher JCPOA as had been negotiated with the Europeans over the past few months", said Dan Shapiro, who was the U.S. ambassador to Israel from 2011 to 2017.

"Let's not run too far away", said Mr Nagel. "Since the deal, we've seen Iran's aggression grow everyday-in Iraq, in Lebanon, in Yemen, in Gaza and, most of all, in Syria, where Iran is trying to establish military bases to attack Israel", he added.
