"The deal is not dead".

According to a joint statement issued by the German federal government Wednesday morning, the three countries, with regret and concern, acknowledged U.S. President Donald Trump's decision of withdrawing from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), or the Iran nuclear deal. "So we want to adhere to it and see to it that Iran does too, that Iran behaves with restraint".

Signatories to the 2015 deal to curb Iran's nuclear ambitions urged Trump not to fundamentally undermine the UN Security Council-endorsed agreement so that the other parties - Britain, France, Germany, Russia, China and Iran - can continue to respect it.

"Iran continues to abide by the restrictions set out by the JCPOA in line with its obligations under the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons".

Mr. Trump said on Tuesday he would reimpose US economic sanctions on Iran as he pulled out of "a awful one-sided deal that should have never, ever been made".

France's Defence Minister Florence Parly on Tuesday warned that challenging the 2015 Iran nuclear deal risks escalating tensions in "very eruptive region" and called for more efforts to improve the agreement.

Britain, Germany and France have already urged the USA not to take steps that would make life harder for other countries that still want to stick to the pact.

Trump's decision to withdraw from the accord and reinstate sanctions on Iran is a disappointment to Macron, who has sought to forge a close relationship with the USA leader and lobbied for the deal to be kept alive during a state visit last month.

According to the French top diplomat, "there is a real risk of confrontation" in the wake of Washington's decision, however, he voiced hope that the United States move would not be "a setback for peace".

Mr. Le Drian said that regular reports by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) had showed Iran was complying with the agreement. "(But, ) it is a factor of peace and stabilization in a very eruptive region", Parly added.
