Karnataka: Kumaraswamy swearing-in today, Dy CM and Speaker posts go to Congress

The Congress will get 24 ministerial portfolios while the JD (S) will have 12 ministers in the cabinet of 34. He has given permission to Venugopal to discuss all those matters and finalize everything. Many Congress MLAs have had the JD (S) as their principal opponent in their constituencies and they are uneasy about this alliance even though they have complied with the party high command's wish at this stage.

He further stated that, in the meeting, Kumaraswamy suggested he would continue to seek guidance on governance of the state from the Congress leaders as welfare and development of the state is his party's primary focus.

Ali told NDTV: "This is what we have decided". I want to clarify that who should be made chief minister, deputy chief minister, who should be given what portfolio from the Congress.

Earlier on Monday, Kumaraswamy met Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati at her residence here and invited her for his oath ceremony scheduled to take place on May 23 in Bengaluru.

Besides Sonia and Rahul Gandhi, Mayawati and Chief Ministers Arvind Kejriwal (Delhi), Pinarayi Vijayan (Kerala), Mamata Banerjee (West Bengal), Chandrababu Naidu (Andhra Pradesh) and K. Chandrashekar Rao (Telangana) are expected to attend the oath-taking ceremony. Being an alliance partner of the Congress now in Karnataka, I don't think, any anti-BJP alliance without the Congress is possible.

"We were invited to form the government. There was nothing unethical", Shah told reporters here.

"It is only their anti-BJP stand that is holding them together". The mandate was in favor of the BJP.

"Let the Congress and JD-S fight, then the anti-incumbency, which exists against the former will escalate, as some of its re-elected legislators will be back in power in their coalition government", noted the spokesman. I have to listen to the call of the nation.

He said, he will take all Congress leaders into confidence to ensure a stable Government. The BJP emerged the single-largest party with 104 seats, while the Congress, with 78 seats, came second, and the JDS (37) third.

The reversal of the BJP's fortunes in the southern state of Karnataka - where it won the most seats but was ousted by a coalition composed of the Congress party and the regional Janata Dal (Secular) party - marks one more election loss at the hands of a united opposition. "I am sure I will rise to the occasion with God's blessings, people's wishes and the support of the Congress", said Kumaraswamy. "On the ground if you see, it is the JD (S) workers who are competing with the Congress, so this is just an immediate arrangement to keep the BJP out", Shastri said, adding that this alliance will last for a year at least.
