Knicks Hire David Fizdale As New Head Coach

David Fizdale has reportedly agreed to a deal to become the head coach of the New York Knicks.

Fizdale was one of 11 candidates NY considered during its search for the team's next head coach.

The Knicks then conducted a lengthy search before agreeing Thursday to a deal in principle with Fizdale, the person told The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the deal was not officially announced.

ESPN first reported the agreement with Fizdale.

Posting a 50-51 record with the Grizzlies from 2016-18, Fizdale lost a battle with Memphis Grizzlies star Marc Gasol and was sacked in November.

Fizdale was one of at least 11 candidates for the job.

Fizdale would be the 29th head coach in Knicks franchise history.

Fizdale went 43-39 and led the Grizzlies to the playoffs in his lone full season in Memphis.

The immediate future also looks bleak, as the team's new talisman, Kristaps Porzingis, will miss the start of the season - and perhaps much more time - because of an injury. After spending a few seasons with the Atlanta Hawks, he went to the Miami Heat, where he won two championships over eight seasons as an assistant coach.
