Lethal Weapon: Replacing Clayne Crawford "Wasn't Our Choice" Says Fox Chair

Clayne Crawford is out, and American Pie's Seann William Scott will replace him for the third season of Fox's Lethal Weapon. Producers were left to scramble to find a replacement for Crawford in the two-hander, with multiple stars passing on offers to join the Fox show until Scott engaged. The brief clip was shared with a message to Lethal Weapon viewers who have taken issue with Crawford's firing after an alleged string of instances of bad behavior on set.

Executives from the Fox network said it wasn't their decision to give Crawford the boot, but according to TV Guide, the network supported the hard call made by producers at Warner Bros.

On the opposite side of the comic book spectrum, it was another case of being renewed for just one more as Fox put in an order for a fifth and final season of Gotham just as everybody thought it was done for. He says he lost his temper over what he characterizes as safety-related lapses on set and apologized.

Two years ago when Clayne Crawford was first cast to play Martin Riggs in Fox's TV adaptation of "Lethal Weapon" - the very same role that helped make Mel Gibson a household name - the actor was a relative unknown. "Furthermore, I apologize to all the crew and cast for any negative attention Lethal Weapon is receiving because of these incidents".

A third tweet implies a potential reason for how the multiple injuries occurred, with Wayans tagging Crawford and using the hashtag #NoApology. "I take responsibility for the incident, because I was in charge of the set".

Crawford issued a statement on Instagram after the news broke, wishing the cast and crew the best for Season 3. However, Newman is optimistic and points to other shows that went through similar shake-ups early in their runs, such as "NYPD Blue".

"I think we made the right choice", Walden said. It's "a new dynamic but a good one".

"Now that the fate of the show is solidified..."

As shown in the Twitter photo from AdWeek TV Editor Jason Lynch, a Lethal Weapon graphic was shown with only Crawford's co-lead Damon Wayans displayed. In a follow-up tweet, he posts a photo of a bloody cut he suffered from the explosion.

"I absolutely love, respect and care for my crew and cast, and would never intentionally jeopardize so many jobs", Crawford wrote.

Wayans then shared a photograph of a sticker he mentioned might be seen across the studio lot the place the present was filmed which learn, "Clayne Crawford Is An Emotional Terrorist". One of the petitions, posted on Change.org, has 1,500 supporters. Wayans is now speaking out about just how intense their interactions were on set, sharing a graphic video showing the actor being struck in the back of the head with a piece of shrapnel as well as several tweets detailing Crawford's erratic, unsafe behavior.
