In Connecticut and NY, the storms turned deadly.

A man who had been mowing his lawn and sought refuge in his truck was killed when a tree fell on the vehicle in Danbury, Connecticut, Danbury Mayor Mark Boughton said, according to the Hartford Courant newspaper.

Connecticut State Police also confirmed that someone in New Fairfield was killed after a tree landed on their auto.

An 11-year-old lady in New York was killed when robust winds despatched a tree crashing onto the automobile she was unloading along with her mom, FOX5 NY reported.

"The greatest threat for any flash flooding or severe weather will be across southern New England and the northern Mid-Atlantic states Tuesday evening", the National Weather Service said.

A tornado watch was issued this afternoon for upstate NY, the Hudson Valley, northeast Pennsylvania, western Connecticut, Massachusetts and southern Vermont.

The Southeast is also expected to see heavy rain over the next several days.
