A massive dust storm hit Delhi and NCR region at around 3:00 AM on Wednesday.

This was the second such storm to hit the national capital in the past four days.

The police control room received at least 59 calls about fallen trees, five calls about fallen electricity poles and 11 calls about hoardings or wall collapse, police said. In a previous warning, the weather department had forecast moderate to heavy rainfall accompanied by loud peals of thunder with frequent lightning flashes.

The latest devastation comes almost two weeks after dust and thunderstorm claimed 134 lives injured 400 people in Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Telangana, Uttarakhand and Punjab on May 2.

In Andhra Pradesh state in the south, at least 12 people were killed by lightning, said M.V. Sheshagiri Babu, the state's relief commissioner. "Thunderstorm accompanied with gusty winds are also very likely at isolated places over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, west Uttar Pradesh, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, Bihar, Telangana, north coastal Andhra Pradesh, south interior Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Lakshadweep and Kerala", the IMD advisory for 15 May read.
