With AP Photos.The New York Mets have placed outfielder Yoenis Cespedes on the 10-day disabled list with a strained right hip flexor.

The team says Cespedes had a precautionary MRI that showed a mild strain Tuesday.

Cespedes was available to pinch-hit, but NY manager Mickey Callaway said he would only use him in "an obvious chance to win the game". Cespedes was placed on the disabled list retroactive to Monday. Phillip Evans has been called up from Triple-A and is starting in left field on Wednesday.
