Microsoft reveals Surface Hub 2, its all-new interactive whiteboard

It rocks a 50.5in display, which is around five inches smaller than its predecessor but comes in a 4K resolution rather than 1080p, and has a 3:2 aspect ratio, slim bezels and can be flipped horizontally as well as sit vertically.

The product provides access to Microsoft Teams, Microsoft Whiteboard, Office 365, Windows 10 and the intelligent cloud. Despite the rumours and speculations, Microsoft remains totally committed to the Surface Hub product line.

Microsoft says it's teaming up with Steelcase to offer a number of options in terms of rolling stands and mounts for those who buy the giant whiteboard. More will be coming soon, and you can check out more on Surface Hub 2 by checking here.

After teasing a next-gen Surface Hub in March, Microsoft today took the wraps off Surface Hub 2 via a new blog post by Panos Panay.

The Surface Hub 2 will include 4K cameras that rotate with the device and integrated speakers and far-field mic arrays.

While the device does only come in one size, multiple Hubs can be paired together to create a larger canvas for collaboration; Microsoft calls this "tiling" The company believes that this approach will serve its customers better, rather than having two fixed iterations. This will also allow users to share and work on different apps side-by-side.

MICROSOFT RECKONS IT'S GOT future office tech nailed down with the Surface Hub 2, a digital flip chart meets easel that looks like just the device for so-called "creatives" to show off their work. Imagine how much your team could get done being able to work simultaneously across Microsoft Whiteboard, PowerBI, PowerPoint, and a full view video call.

Microsoft said it sold more than 5,000 of the original Surface Hub devices to customers in 25 markets, including half of Fortune 100 companies. I am not exactly sure what Microsoft considers to be a competitive device.

Microsoft hasn't shared the exact specs or the release date but has promised its availability in 2019. The device, Microsoft said, is emblematic of the modern workplace, where people are more mobile and spread out and companies need better ways to communicate and collaborate.
