Emergency crews are responding to a military cargo plane crash Wednesday in Savannah, Georgia, said a spokeswoman for the Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport.

The plane came down near the intersection of Highway 21 and Crossgate Road.

Television footage of the crash site showed clouds of black smoke billowing into the air with fire equipment arriving at the scene.

GDD did not confirm how many people aboard the plane. "Avoid the area. 21 shut down until further notice".

The airport said there has been no impact on its flight operations.
