Over two thirds of American drivers consider a reasonable charging time for an electric vehicle's battery to be 30 minutes or less, but even a powerful Level 2 charger won't get a auto back on the road in under a few hours. That, combined with rising gas prices, should create even more interest in electric cars. "While concern for the environment is still a major motivator, AAA found US drivers are also attracted to the lower long-term costs and advanced technology features that many of these vehicles offer".
Other considerations for buying an electric vehicle include crash rating (77 percent), cost (71 percent), vehicle performance (69 percent) advanced safety technology such as automatic emergency braking and lane keeping assistance (60 percent).

Baby Boomers (66%) and Generation X (64%) are more likely than Millennials (48%) to be concerned about running out of charge while driving. These figures are 9% down from 2017's survey results. However, historical spikes in gas prices have been a more powerful and immediate catalyst for increased purchases of efficient gas cars, hybrid vehicles, and plug-in cars.
