US Navy's new command puts Russia in the crosshairs – media
Amid rising tensions with Russian Federation, the Pentagon on Friday announced the official launch of a new naval command that will bolster the USA and NATO presence in the Atlantic Ocean. In January 2017, British First Sea Lord Admiral Sir Philip Jones said that "in northern Europe and the Baltic, we are responding to the highest level of Russian naval activity since the end of the Cold War".
Norfolk has also been proposed as a host for the new Nato Joint Force Command for the Atlantic.
