The New York Giants waived/injured running back Paul Perkins on Thursday, two weeks after he underwent pectoral surgery.

Perkins, 23, suffered a pectoral muscle injury, which one source believed was a tear, before the start of the Giants' offseason workout program.

The UCLA product flashed glimpses of promise as a rookie and racked up 456 rushing yards at a clip of 4.1 yards a carry. Over the final three games of the regular season, Perkins broke out with 226 yards, including a 102-yard performance in the Giants' victorious season finale against Washington. He was inactive in four games and did not appear in another.

Vardy strikes again as Leicester beat 10-man Arsenal 3-1
It was Leicester's first league win over Arsenal since 1994, leaving Puel pleased with their response after a five-game winless run.

He likely would not have been a starter in the upcoming season after NY drafted Penn State running back Saquon Barkley with the second overall pick. Rookie Wayne Gallman emerged toward the end of the season as the Giants' up-and-coming running back.

But after being given a greater role in the offseason to start the 2017 season, Perkins struggled badly, rushing for just 90 yards on the season while averaging 2.2 yards per carry. Now ranking third in UCLA history in rushing yards (3,611), Perkins hails from a football family.

Perkins did not score a touchdown in his Giants career.
