Next Star Wars spinoff blockbuster will be about Obi-Wan Kenobi

If Solo: A Star Wars Story is the Star Wars film that "no one" wanted, an Obi-Wan Kenobi film is one that "everyone" wants.

What makes this rumor a little hard to swallow, though, is that publicly, Lucasfilm has declared that it wants to continue focusing on Han, with the next "Star Wars Story" film likely following in "Solo"'s footsteps, and highlighting Han's relationship with Chewie. Remember, the status of this information is still just a rumor. "Return of the Jedi" also used a code name.

The report goes on to say that a London studio is already booked to shoot the film next spring, and director Stephen Daldry - previously reported to be circling the project - now appears to be officially attached. With Solo coming out on Friday, May 25, there have been plenty rumors about the future of the franchise, and one of the early rumors may have some steam behind it: an Obi-Wan solo movie. A war breaks out between the desert planet's moisture farmers and vicious Tusken Raider tribes, which forces Obi-Wan to come out of hiding and intervene. He trained Anakin Skywalker, who ultimately betrays Kenobi and the Jedi Order after becoming Darth Vader and establishing the Galactic Empire with Darth Sidious, aka Emperor Palpatine.

As reported by TMZ, the working title for the spin-off is "Joshua Tree", and it will focus on the period on Kenobi's life before he mentored Luke Skywalker and set him on a path to become a Jedi Knight. The actor has expressed interest in playing Obi-Wan again, most recently telling press at the Golden Globes that he'd be happy to return to the role.
