Incoming Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa is planning to focus on growing Nintendo's small mobile games business with a "single game-changing hit", Venture Beat reports, saying that his goal is to build a 100 billion yen (U.S. $910 million) mobile gaming business.
"I can't say that there are any that are like that" in development, Furukawa told Nikkei.
Nintendo's mobile business now amounts to 39.3 billion yen (U.S. $358 million), which represents only around 4 percent of its total revenues. "The idea that something will emerge that transforms into something big, in the same manner as game consoles, is the defining motive of the Nintendo business".
Furukawa noted that he didn't know if Nintendo would experience another success similar to Pokemon Go, though that seems to be the goal for the company in the future. However, Nintendo now has no plans to create a similar type of game that features augmented reality technology.

For comparison, the last fiscal year generated 40% of that revenue. No easy task, this, considering Nintendo's current reluctance to release console-quality, or at least close thereof, games on mobile.

An expanded mobile division is certainly something that a younger president of a major video game company might be particularly interested in. "For over 30 years, we have been selling in comparatively the same regions that include Japan, the USA and Europe", he said, going on to detail that he wants to add the Middle East and Southeast Asia to that list. "So the benchmark is not whether Nintendo Switch sales can surpass total Wii sales, but rather how we adapt and respond to changes in the market and strive to continue selling Nintendo Switch as long as possible".
