Philadelphia man wins 'Survivor' in a history-making finale

Survivor Ghost Island finale

Survivor Ghost Island finale

The show, now having just completed its 36th (!) season on CBS, aired the finale of "Survivor: Ghost Island" Wednesday night after the competition had dwindled to three final contestants: Holland, Domenick Abbate, and Laurel Johnson, who is from Cherry Hill, New Jersey.

All Survivoralliances must come to an end. Domenick and Wendell were thick as thieves this season on Survivor: Ghost Island, but they couldn't both win the $1 million prize.

In a almost unprecedented move, "Survivor" host Jeff Probst read the votes live at the tribal council, as opposed to the traditional unveiling at the live reunion show.

Congrats to Wendell Holland Jr.! It was thus Wendell against Angela in a fire-making challenge for the third spot, and Wendell came out victorious.

After almost three months of gruelling competition, the victor of "Survivor: Ghost Island" has been crowned.

Johnson, as the finalist not involved in the tie, was forced to cast the deciding vote. Laurel voted for Wendell, thereby making Wendell the victor of "Survivor: Ghost Island" and Domenick the runner-up of the closest finale in 36 seasons.

Things then got complicated.

Domenick confessed during the reunion show that the moment he realized Laurel would be casting the tie-breaking vote, he knew he'd lost the game.
