President Trump says people entering the USA illegally are taking advantage of "catch-and-release" policies and don't show up for their immigration court dates. He said: "We may have to close up our country to get this straight".

The disputed statements, and others like them, are "patently false and defamatory", the lawsuit says, and their continued distribution will cause "irreparable harm to Gibbons' reputation as an honest, trustworthy, pro-life, conservative candidate and supporter of President Trump".

He also mentioned he wants to rework trade with China.

"We'll be taking care of our people", he added.

Renacci's main opponent, Mike Gibbons is not a politician, but a businessman, but Renacci said he is not concerned about that.

The president made similar comments on a potential shutdown during a rally in MI a week ago, and in a Twitter message on Friday described the southern USA border as under siege.

Renacci, a member of the House, is running for the Senate against Democratic incumbent Sherrod Brown. While still unconfirmed, it's also predicted that Trump will speak at a Republican National Convention-affiliated fundraiser in OH this weekend.

Though Trump had warned that the migrants "had better be stopped" before they reached the US-Mexico border, 228 were eventually allowed to set foot on US soil and apply for asylum, BuzzFeed News reported on Friday.

Renacci greeted Trump on the tarmac in Cleveland and was seated next to the president at the event. After stops last month in West Virginia and Florida, Trump's visit to OH comes days before that state's upcoming Senate contest.

Trump has endorsed Renacci, and the lawmaker pointed out that he has been consistently supportive of the president's agenda. Gibbons' backers include Kentucky GOP Sen.
