Operator of self-driving Waymo vehicle injured in Chandler crash
A self-driving Chrysler Pacifica minivan operated by Waymo, the autonomy subsidiary of Alphabet/Google, was involved in a two-car accident Friday afternoon in Chandler, Ariz. The Waymo was reportedly travelling at a gradual pace and in autonomous mode with an occupant within the driver's seat.
The sedan swerved into the westbound lanes of Chandler Boulevard and hit a Waymo vehicle operating in autonomous mode, police said.
Waymo, Google's self-driving vehicle project, did not immediately respond to CBS News' request for comment. Another auto had been forced to swerve moments before to avoid that vehicle.
Both the vehicles were towed from the scene.

After the March crash, Waymo CEO John Krafcik said he was confident in his company's technology. A safety report available on Waymo's website states that "Safety is at the core of Waymo's mission" and outlines the processes that the company goes through to ensure passengers' safety.
