Pompeo, in North Korea, to return with detained Americans: South Korean official

Their release could help set the table for a fruitful summit between Trump and Kim as the US President seeks to discourage North Korea from its pursuit of nuclear weapons.

The Committee for Human Rights in North Korea welcomed the release of the three Americans, but noted many are still being held in North Korea, The New York Times reported.

Some members of Congress, while applauding the release of the three Americans, are expressing concern about the upcoming Trump-Kim summit.

At lunch on Wednesday, Pompeo said the United States is committed to working with North Korea to achieve peace on the Korean peninsula. Trump announced Wednesday that the demilitarized zone between the Koreas would not host the summit.

"The only regular channel that existed between the USA and Iran was the JCPOA", Parsi said.

After the plane left North Korea, President Donald Trump made the announcement Wednesday morning on Twitter.

Since coming to office Trump has embarked on a campaign of "maximum pressure" on the North Korean regime.

The release capped a dramatic day of diplomacy in Pyongyang.

As for his meeting with Pompeo, Kim appreciated that it "produced satisfactory results", KCNA said, adding that the leader promised to meet with the USA secretary of state again. The interview was conducted in the presence of North Korean officials, so CNN could not determine whether Kim's comments were made under duress.

How the rise of voice search puts pressure on Google's business model
Not even 24 hours before the Google news broke, Facebook had chose to name its Oculus wing the Facebook Reality Lab (catchy!). This all falls in line with the Silicon Valley party line of "make everything A.I".

Trump excoriated Iran for its "destabilizing activities" in the region in his remarks from the White House Diplomatic Room, including Tehran's "support for terrorism", its "nuclear threat" as well as the dangers posed by its ballistic missile program.

Until now, the only American released by North Korea during Trump's presidency was Otto Warmbier, a 22-year-old university student who returned to the United States in a coma last summer after 17 months of captivity and died days later. He added that they should soon have a more complete readout of the three men's health.

"They didn't tell me anything about my release until the last minute". "Mostly we thank God for Tony's safe return", the family said in a statement. I think it's nearly inconceivable that the USA would succeed in some tactic in splitting the DPRK from China.

The last American to be freed - Otto Warmbier, who was jailed for stealing a hotel sign - was released past year but was fatally ill, and died shortly after returning home.

Warmbier's death escalated U.S. "They were happy to be with us on this plane, to be sure".

Kim Dong-chul, Kim Hak-song and Kim Sang-duk - all South Korean-born USA nationals jailed by Pyongyang - were allowed to fly back with U.S. secretary of state Mike Pompeo. The former Virginia resident was sentenced in April 2016 to 10 years in prison with hard labor after being convicted of espionage.

North Korea has admitted to kidnapping 13 Japanese citizens decades ago to train spies.

The other two detainees hadn't been tried. Kim Hak Song and Tony Kim, who had both taught at a university in Pyongyang that was founded with donations from Christian groups, had been held for about one year and apparently had not been tried.
