Not only does Liddell want to fight again but he actually feels like after getting a couple of wins under his belt that he would be ready to challenge former UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones.

While it would be a match-up of two of the greatest champions in the storied UFC light heavyweight division, it's obviously a hard fight to get behind considering Liddell is nearly 50. A fighter who is still considering talks with Bellator, who is not afraid of employing aging fighters.

CM Punk is fighting on UFC main cards and 50 Cent may or may not end up fighting while Chuck Liddell calls out Jon Jones.

"In my mind, I would like two good warm up fights, and I'd like a shot at Jon Jones", Liddell told MMAFighting. "I'm serious. I'd like a shot at him".

And while most who know both fighters wouldn't see the hypothetical matchup as one that is overly competitive, that hasn't stopped everyone else from wondering at how both men - at their respective peaks - would fare against each other inside the UFC octagon.

As for Jones, he's been busy battling the California State Athletic Commission and USADA since his recent failed drug test after his initial victory to win the UFC light heavyweight title over Daniel Cormier at UFC 214 in July of previous year.

Chuk Liddell had a dominant run as champion until a left hook by Quinton "Rampage" Jackson at UFC 71 ended his time at the top of the UFC's notorious deepest division.

In the three tweets, he posted: "Old Chuck has been calling me out for years!". And I kinda hadn't really thought about it much. I'd literally fly you out to Albuquerque this weekend.

There have been mixed reactions to the whole situation.

Although he's sidelined for now, Jones took to Twitter to respond to Liddell, saying he normally respects his elders, but is willing to let Liddell "come get it".
