India Vs Afghanistan, One-Off Test: Shikhar Dhawan Hammers Century Before Lunch

India vs Afghanistan Shikhar Dhawan breaks Virender Sehwag’s record

KL Rahul has come in at number three.

Dhawan bludgeoned the rookie Afghan bowlers into submission with a power-packed unbeaten 104 (91 balls) while Murali Vijay (41 no off 72 balls) held one end up with the home team setting the foundation for what promises to be a mammoth first innings total.

On Thursday, on the first day of the Test in Bengaluru, Shikhar Dhawan made a mockery of any such claim.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Thursday he hoped a historic cricket match between India and Afghanistan would strengthen ties between the South Asian neighbours and allies in the fight against militancy in the region.

"It's important we play our minds rather than skills, because getting back to Test from T20 cricket is all about tuning your mind rather than focusing on your skills".

Dhawan, as a result, got to his seventh Test century.

The 2026 World Cup will be played in North America
A successful North American bid would likely also give the Canadian national team an automatic berth into the 2026 tournament . The 2018 tournament kicks off in Russian Federation on Thursday and the 2022 World Cup will be hosted by Qatar.

U.N. shuttle diplomacy aims to avert assault on vital Yemen port
The conflict in Yemen has left almost 10,000 people dead in what was already the Arab world's poorest country. The UN chief added that Special Envoy to Yemen Martin Griffiths was shuttling between Riyadh and Abu Dhabi.

India have a little advantage in the upcoming Test as their batsmen have already faced a couple of Afghan spinners in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Afghanistan: Ashgar Stanikzai (Captain), Mohammed Shahzad (wicket-keeper), Javed Ahmadi, Rahmat Shah, Ihsanullah Janat, Nasir Jamal, Hashmatullah Shahidi, Afsar Zazai, Mohammed Nabi, Rashid Khan, Zahir Khan, Amir Hamza Hotak, Sayed Ahmad Shirzad, Yamin Ahmadzai Wafadar, Mujeeb ur Rahman.

The 25 boundaries and four sixes in the first session was a testimony that there is a long road that Afghanistan need to travel. However, the ball just missed the stumps despite pitching in the line, giving a lifeline for the Delhi batsman. India and Dhawan won't mind this though with fifty up in eleven overs.

The one-off test match is considered as a historic match since this will be Afghanistan's maiden test match after obtaining the test status from ICC. Many argued that India was making a mistake by taking the visitors lightly and fielding a weakened XI.

Speaking about the upcoming series he said: "As a Test team we can not take anyone for granted because cricket is a amusing game".

"We have worked hard for this and will try to keep up our good performance in the Test match as well", the 30-year-old skipper said.
