Lava flowing from the Kilauea volcano on Hawaii's Big Island has claimed as many as 700 homes, CBS Honolulu affiliate KGMB reports.

It also warned that further ground cracking and outbreaks of lava in the area of the active fissures are possible, advising nearby residents to heed all messages and warnings from the Hawaii County Civil Defence.

Kilauea volcano is near-constantly erupting from vents either on its summit (caldera) or on the rift zones.

Hawaii County Civil Defense agency officials are allowing residents with official credentials to enter Leilani Estates. It is flowing toward a community that got wiped out last week.

The USGS said fountaining from fissure 8 reached as high as about 200 feet Saturday, and there was some minor lava activity from fissures 16 and 18.
