Kim Jong Un tours Singapore, takes selfie ahead of summit

The first meeting between the two leaders is scheduled for Tuesday at 9 a.m. Singapore time - Monday at 9 p.m.

"President Trump believes that Kim Jong-un has an unprecedented opportunity to change the trajectory of our relationship and bring peace and prosperity to his country", added the secretary of state.

On the eve of Mr. Trump's meeting with Mr. Kim, one of the president's top trade advisers, Peter Navarro, said there was "a special place in hell" for leaders like Mr. Trudeau, accusing him of engaging in "bad-faith diplomacy" with Mr. Trump.

"The senior officials of the party and government sincerely wished Kim Jong Un good successes in the first summit meeting and talks between the DPRK and the U.S. and his safe return", the KCNA said.

Kim is in Singapore for a historic summit with U.S. President Donald Trump on Tuesday. Kim has led the USA team at the demilitarized zone working on a joint communique with North Korea.

The president planned to stop in Guam and Hawaii on his way back to Washington. As he says, "I'm optimistic that we will have a successful outcome" or words to that effect. Trump descended from Air Force One into the steamy Singapore night, greeting officials and declaring he felt "very good" before being whisked away to his hotel via a route lined with police and photo-snapping onlookers.

Authorities have beefed up security around the hotels where Trump and Kim (Saint Regis) will be staying in central Singapore.

Along with an extensive security detail, the North Korean leader took his own personal toilet to the meeting.

Rodong Sinmun newspaper also seems to be preparing people for talks with the "enemy", publishing an editorial on North Korea's need to establish relations with other countries.

"We're prepared to take actions that will provide them sufficient certainty that they can be comfortable that denuclearization isn't something that ends badly for them", he said.

"They may be able to pull rabbits out of a hat that the rest of us conventional diplomats would not have been able to do", he said.

The former businessman said he has spend a lifetime preparing for negotiations of this type, and predicted he would know in an instant if Kim is serious about the topic of denuclearisation.

"I think the North will denuclearise ... because it knows it has no other alternatives", he said.
