According to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Johnson, a Eunice, Louisiana resident, was racing for the lead in the main event on the one-third-mile clay track with eventual race victor Daryn Pitman, when Johnson crashed on Lap 18 shortly after a restart.

Per the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, Johnson was airlifted to a hospital after his crash.

The racing world was shaken Sunday with news that World of Outlaws sprint vehicle driver Jason Johnson died following a crash in Wisconsin.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. responded to the tragic news of World of Outlaws Sprint auto racer Jason Johnson's death on Sunday, offering his condolences to Johnson's family.

Earnhardt was one of many fellow drivers and fans to commemorate Johnson's tragic death.
