'Mission impossible' for US cities climate deal

Today marks one year since President Donald Trump made good on his threat to withdraw the United States from the Paris climate accord agreed to under the Obama administration.

"As the Energy and Clean Growth Minister Claire Perry said recently, we will be seeking advice from the UK's independent advisers, the Committee on Climate Change, on the implications of the Paris Agreement for the UK's long-term emissions reduction targets".

Instead two more countries - Syria and Nicaragua - signed on after Trump's announcement.

Ms Creagh said: "If we don't move to net zero, we can't stop climate change".

"The richest countries that produced the most emissions are the least affected by heat when average temperatures climb to just 2°C, while poorer nations bear the brunt of changing local climates and the consequences that come with them", said King.

A Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) spokeswoman said: "The UK was the first to bring in the landmark Climate Change Act 10 years ago and many other nations have since followed our lead".

A meeting is planned in December in Poland for countries to look at its implementation, including how to monitor emissions.

The American Cities Climate Challenge will choose 20 USA cities and help them speed up their efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, in an effort to reach a 26-percent reduction by 2025 that had been set up during the Barack Obama administration, the CBS report said.

Ontario Liberal Leader Kathleen Wynne makes a campaign stop at St. She acknowledged some of them would be "mad" about her decision. None of the candidates commented on Wynne's statement either.

"Without the money and support crucial to delivering the Paris Agreement, the global effort to address climate change may be fatally undermined", he warned in a statement.

The call follows the United Kingdom government asking the Committee on Climate Change (CCC) for advice on bringing the UK's emissions reduction target in line with the Paris Agreement on climate change.

The US departure from the Paris pact "gave us a galvanizing point", said Angela Navarro, Virginia's deputy secretary of commerce and trade.

California Gov. Jerry Brown is planning a global climate summit in September.

States, cities and businesses representing more than half the USA economy and population have adopted targets to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, according to WRI.

"I don't think that anyone would argue that we're in a better position", she said.
