Imperious Nadal won a record-extending 11th French Open title with a 6-4 6-3 6-2 victory over young pretender Dominic Thiem.

Dominic Thiem remembers sitting in front of a TV to follow along as Rafael Nadal made his Grand Slam final debut and won his first French Open title back in 2005.

Rafael Nadal won his 11th French Open title on Sunday. Those two players have the most (Federer, 20) and third most (Sampras, 14) Grand Slams titles in the history of men's tennis.

Thiem, mixing heavy top-spin and flat groundstrokes and angling balls across the sidelines, saved a break point at 1-2 and two more at 2-3 and there were signs that Nadal was struggling with his timing as he framed several forehands.

It will serve as a huge boost for the 20-time Grand Slam victor if he manages to win at Stuttgart and then at Halle the following week for it will enhance his chance of claiming the position of the top seed in Wimbledon.

In all fourteen French Open appearances combined, Nadal has lost just 25 sets.

His career record at Roland Garros might be the most staggering number of all.

He became only the second player since Margaret Court (Australian Open) to pick up 11 titles at a major. Nadal, Federer, Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray - the so-called Big Four - have dominated the men's game to such a degree that Thiem is only the second player now younger than 28 to have reached a major singles final.

The revised diesel prices in other metro cities are - ₹ 71.13 in Kolkata , ₹ 73.02 in Mumbai and ₹ 72.40 in Chennai . The 16 days of hike came after a mysterious "freeze" in the daily revisions of fuel prices across the country.

Merkel: G-7 summit with Trump was a 'sobering' experience
National Security Adviser John Bolton and other aides also look on what appears to be a tense moment. One showed marks left on Mr Trump's hand. "#G7Charlevoix, second day: A new step has been taken".

Uncle Toni, no longer his nephew's coach but back in his customary seat on the end of the players' box, two seats down from the current coach, Carlos Moya, summed it up perfectly.

Sunday's final will be Nadal's 24th Grand Slam final, putting him second all time.

Unlike a year ago - when those first few games realistically settled things - Thiem bounced back, breaking straight away.

As he showed in Monday's (NZT) final, Nadal remains indestructible, even when cramp turns his racket hand into an agonising claw.

Nadal, however, averted danger with a pass after dragging Thiem in with a deft drop-shot. With the score at eight-all, Pavic unfortunately double-faulted to hand the championship point to his opponents, which Dodig took full advantage of to serve out the set. Not once did he look actually like he was troubling the 32-year old champion.

"For sure, me, I'm confident that this was not my last Grand Slam final, " Thiem said, "and that's my biggest goal: to get into the next one and then to do better than today".

Nadal's Barcelona Open semifinal win over David Goffin was his 400th tour-level clay-court match win, making him the fourth man in the Open Era to win 400 matches on clay, after Vilas (659), Manuel Orantes (502) and Muster (422).
