North Korea erasing most anti-US propaganda

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un shakes hands with U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo in this May 9, 2018 photo released on May 10, 2018 by North Korea's Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) in Pyongyang.

Pompeo told CNN that Trump's decision to suspend U.S. military exercises in the region will continue "only so long as there is a good-faith negotiation progress, productive results being achieved".

This contradicts a senior defense official, who said ahead of Defense Secretary Jim Mattis' trip to Asia that Washington will soon set a timeline for North Korea with "specific asks".

In addition to toning down its anti-US rhetoric, North Korea has also reportedly transferred the remains of soldiers who died in the 1950-53 war to the border with South Korea.

"If we can't do that, if it turns out that there is no capacity to deliver the outcome that both presidents said they wanted, yeah, we reassess", he said. "North Korea relations we will take additional steps in correspondence".

"We have a good chemistry together", Trump said. It's likely the first time many North Korean's have seen what President Trump looks like.

North Korea and the USA fought in the 1950-53 Korean War and the remains of thousands of American soldiers are still believed to be buried on the northern side of the peninsula.

"Any statements by DoD personnel regarding the DPRK are exclusively in reference to the military aspects of the negotiations", White added, mentioning the "indefinite suspension of major exercises or logistical support for the dignified transfer of remains".

North Korea propaganda outlet Uriminzokkiri focused on the returns of US remains, and described the policy as a step forward. -South Korean "war games".

North Korean state media have shown many reports, photographs and videos of the recent meeting between the country's leader and the US president.

The meeting concluded with the signing of a joint document between the two leaders, outlining their commitment to the complete denuclearisation of the Korean peninsula.

"One thing is really clear, is that the Kim Jong Un leadership is very much anxious about making important changes, exposing the system to the influence of outside powers", said Yonsei University's Bong Young-shik.
