Qualcomm Snapdragon 1000 details emerge - CPU

Qualcomm has its eye on Intel's PC market if rumours around a new Qualcomm Snapdragon 1000 are to be believed.

In designing an SoC from the ground up for PCs, it could not only deliver better performance and longer battery life, but also challenge Intel as users begin to expect increased portability and efficiency from their mobile devices.

Liverpool though, are one club that seem to be taking their chances in pursuit of Asensio as they look to bolster their attack this summer.

What's slated to offer even more performance apparently, however, is something called the Snapdragon 1000, a chip that has been enjoying its time in the rumormill spotlight these past few days. The report also states that the SD 1000 SoC would be having 16GB LPDDR4X RAM and two 128GB UFS flash drives. The Y-series chips are less powerful and found in Intel's thinner systems, while the U-series processors are used in more-average, everyday laptops. The platform also features Gigabit WLAN and a new power management chip for enhanced efficiency. So, there is a possibility that the Snapdragon 1000 may power thin-sized laptops with small form factor. Now, details of a chip named the SDM1000 (which is already being referred to as the Snapdragon 1000) have surfaced.

The report notes that the SDM1000 measures 20mm x 15mm, which is large compared to the 12.4mm x 12.4mm size of the Snapdragon 835, 845 and upcoming 855 Mobile Platforms. In other words, the SoC will not be soldered to the motherboard. ASUS is reportedly working on a new product codenamed Primus that would be powered by Snapdragon 1000, too. However, rumors surrounding the SD1000 suggest the USA -based chip maker could be venturing a new territory of manufacturing swappable processors.
