USA-Canada-Mexico to host World Cup 2026

On Wednesday in Moscow, the trio bid of the United States, Mexico and Canada beat Morocco in a vote to earn the hosting rights to the 2026 World Cup.

The north Americans pledged their tournament would generate an $11 billion profit, while Morocco, which has now failed in five bids to host a World Cup, said theirs would make five billion.

The North America bid received 134 of the 203 votes, while Morocco polled 65 in the vote of the FIFA Congress in Moscow which saw one member vote for "neither bid".

"Football today is the only victor", said U.S. Soccer president Carlos Cordeiro.

This is the first World Cup vote since England endured a shock defeat in the contest to host the 2018 finals when Russian Federation and Qatar were picked to host consecutive tournaments despite being vastly weaker on paper.

In a historic vote held in Moscow on Wednesday, the "United Bid" of Canada, Mexico and the United States beat out Morocco to win the right to co-host the 2026 FIFA World Cup, marking the first time that global soccer's marquee event will touch down on Canadian soil.

As it stands now, 60 games will be played in the United States, with Mexico and Canada hosting 10 each. It will be the first World Cup since the 2002 edition in South Korea and Japan in which multiple countries will host. "[Such an event is] impossible without a huge number of specialists and enthusiasts of the entire world football family", the President said. Canada, Mexico and the USA are home to a combined 491 million people and two of the world's biggest media markets.

The ceremony will see a fusion of different genres as Robbie Williams will perform some of his greatest musical hits which will then be carried on with some classical music from the world of Opera as fans from all over the world get an opportunity to celebrate the glory of the World Cup. "Together-in partnership with our Candidate Host Cities, the Member Associations, and FIFA-we will use this platform to unite the world around football and help create a new and sustainable blueprint for the future of FIFA World Cups™".

The 2026 World Cup is coming to the United States - and Miami is expected to be one of the venues.

But bid chief Hicham el Amrani said he was confident the country's infrastructure "could deliver" and made play of the North African nation's position, nine miles from the southern tip of Spain - dubbing it a "European" World Cup. The Switzerland-based organization reports its revenue in four-year cycles, and most recently claimed $5.7 billion for the cycle culminating in the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. Three cities each in Canada and Mexico will also host games.
