Uber Lite for Android launched in India

The app should work on essentially "any Android phone" straight off the bat.

Of course, the aim is not only to save digital hoarding room for "actual selfies and other apps", but also to support "spotty connectivity and slower than average internet speeds, on basic Android phones, and for people with limited data plans". India being a big market for the American convenience giant, the company has now made a decision to bring a lite version of the original Uber application.

Uber Lite is now being trialed in India, which is likely to be its most popular market, and more features such as language selection and offline requesting are coming soon. Usually, it is the case that consumers have to face issues like poor internet connectivity and low storage, in such cases the Uber Lite app is going to come in handy. The map view that we all know from Uber will not display by default, to keep the app running smoothly, but you can still tap the option to bring it up at any time. If there are Global Positioning System or network issues, it will offer popular pickup points to choose from. You can also choose to adjust your pickup location on the map. After the cab is booked, you will be displayed with the driver's contact details. The new Uber Lite app will allow users to have the same experience but will have a smaller footprint. The company will be introducing more features soon with one being the choice of regional languages. The app still features in-app support and you'll still be able to share your trip with friends and family, but it has a redesigned interface that relies less heavily on Global Positioning System and live access to maps. The app also comes with the option of "Share Pass" which lets users ride at original fares and no peak rates. Uber Lite is clearly aimed at taking on Ola, India's home-grown ride-hailing service, which launched a lightweight version of its app earlier this year.
