Lebron James is officially a Laker now. The Lakers have won 11 championships while based in Los Angeles since 1960-61, adding to the five they won when they called Minneapolis home.

It's a big day for the Los Angeles Lakers as LeBron James signed his 4-year $154-million contract with the purple and gold.

The signing kicks off the "LAbron" era in Tinsletown as the world's best all-around player begins work restoring the storied Lakers franchise to glory.

"He loves to compete and is an awesome leader who is about winning and making sure that his teammates are successful", Magic said in a statement. The Lakers are excited to have a team-mate who has gone nine times to the NBA Finals. "It's a huge step closer to returning the Lakers to the playoffs and to the NBA Finals".

James is coming off one of his greatest National Basketball Association seasons, playing in all 82 regular-season games for the Cavaliers while finishing third in the National Basketball Association with 27.5 points per game and hitting career highs with 8.6 rebounds and 9.1 assists.

Yet Wright, speaking on First Things First, insists that James did not join the Lakers on the basis that he would team up with Leonard and that he is relaxed about his chances of reaching a ninth straight Finals.

James has played in 1,143 career regular season games for the Cavaliers and Miami Heat, averaging 27.2 points, 7.4 rebounds, 7.2 assists and 1.6 steals per game.

The Cavaliers had hoped to re-sign James, who has appeared in eight consecutive NBA Finals.

The 33-year-old turned down strong interest from the Philadelphia 76ers and Houston Rockets in order to move to California, with many reports citing that his decision was largely family-orientated. The team announced the deal Tuesday, but did not release the terms of the contract.
