A 91-year-old woman was killed after a helicopter crashed into her house in USA state of Virginia on Monday.

State police received the call about the crash shortly before 4:45 p.m. Sunday.

The crash occurred Sunday afternoon in Williamsburg, starting a fire in the building.

The crash sparked a large fire, according to CNN affiliate WAVY-TV.

The Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board are working to get information on the identity of the pilot, the helicopter and cause of the crash, Anaya said.

The FAA later tweeted that only the pilot was onboard the chopper, which was identified as an R44.

The Daily Press newspaper quoted Virginia State Police as saying there was "one confirmed fatality within the residential structure".

State Police say that pilot and aircraft information is still unknown at this time due to structural safety. Neighbors told local news outlets they saw a small, rickety helicopter crash and heard or felt the impact.

The accident took place in a residential area near the campus of William and Mary, which warned people to stay away from the area.
