Belgium showed their fighting qualities as Nacer Chadli's 94th-minute strike completed a thrilling 3-2 comeback victory over Japan in their World Cup last-16 clash in Rostov.

Belgium had its status as a World Cup title contender severely tested on Monday, as it came back from two goals down to beat Japan and advance to a quarterfinal meeting with Brazil.

Genki Haraguchi broke the deadlock for Japan three minutes into the second stanza with a low strike from the right side of the box following a quick counter-attack.

Belgium very almost responded instantly, with Eden Hazard rocketing a shot off the post just after the reset.

However, Jan Vertonghen pulled a goal back for Belgium in the 69th minute with a magnificent header from the far side, which looped over the keeper before nestling in the back of the net.

Martinez has all his players fit as Belgium hope to improve their best performance at a World Cup finals, 32 years after reaching the semi-finals of Mexico 1986.

The second match saw Belgium continuing their menacing form as they thrashed Tunisia 5-2 with Romelu Lukaku and Eden Hazard scoring a brace while Batshuayi scoring in the 90th minute to make it 5.

Belgium's "golden generation" have now scored 12 goals in four games in Russian Federation ahead of a mouthwatering last eight clash with Brazil who beat Mexico 2-0 earlier on Monday.

The game looked destined to be heading to extra time but Nacer Chadli scored with practically the last kick of the game to send Belgium into the quarter-finals.

Japan were pushing for a victor, but Belgium won the match at the death as Chadli finished off a pulsating counter attack in the fourth minute of stoppage time.
