With some of America's closest trading partners imposing retaliatory measures, Trump's approach to tariffs has unsettled financial markets and strained relations between the White House and the Chamber.

"The administration is threatening to undermine the economic progress it worked so hard to achieve", said Chamber President Tom Donohue in a statement to Reuters. It has already backed candidates who share those goals in Republican primaries.

As temperatures and tensions increase, the measures targeting Can$16.6 billion (US$12.6 billion) in USA steel, aluminum and consumer goods will take effect on Sunday, when Canadians celebrate a national holiday and just days before Americans celebrate Independence Day amid a heatwave expected in both countries.

Perhaps most unsettling to businesses and investors, Washington and Beijing have engaged in tit-for-tat tariffs and threatened retaliation that has raised the prospect of a trade war between the world's two largest economies.

The agency, according to Reuters, has begun launching a campaign that pushes back against the President's trade war.

Canada imposed taxes of up to 25 percent on USA goods including whiskey, yogurt and ketchup.

When it comes to the ongoing re-negotiation of North American free trade agreement, Trump says he's going to wait until after November's mid-term elections, adding that he could quickly sign an agreement with Canada and Mexico but he's not, saying he is not happy with the current deal.

Canadian tariffs on more than 100 US goods went into effect on Sunday, as a retaliatory effort against similar measures imposed by the United States.

Today Prime Minister Trudeau met with workers at a plant in Leamington, where the tomato paste used in French's ketchup is made.

Some US products, mostly steel and iron, face 25 per cent tariffs, the same penalty the United States slapped on imported steel in May.

Jerry Dias, Unifor's national president, called Canada's retaliatory tariffs a "necessary evil". The EU has targeted $3.2 billion in American goods exported to the 28-member bloc, including bourbon and Harley Davidson (HOG.N) motorcycles.

Canada announced Sunday that the tariffs amount to $16.6 billion Canadian dollars or $12.5 billion in USA dollars.

China, Mexico, and the European Union are also pushing back on the U.S.'s tariffs.
