Ecstatic Croatia coach Zlatko Dalic is confident tiredness will not be an issue for his side when they face France in the World Cup final despite once again coming through extra time to beat England on Wednesday.

Following the dramatic penalty shootout win, sealed by Ivan Rakitic's decisive spot-kick, Croatia were in jubilant mood as they caught the team coach back from the Fisht Olympic Stadium.

Like England, France have won one World Cup, and also like England it took place on home soil.

Dozens of people took to Winnipeg streets to chant and sing following a viewing party at St. Nicholas Tavelich Croatian Parish on Main Street.

"This World Cup will be won by a team with character", Dalic said.

"This makes us extremely proud that after 20 years we've reached the semis of the World Cup", the 32-year-old Modric added.

Not even a dramatic late spot-kick failure in the last 16 against Denmark could derail Modric's superb tournament, the Real Madrid man a strong contender for the Golden Ball at Russian Federation 2018. "I just feel like we could have done a lot of better".

Roger Federer loses five-set match to Kevin Anderson
Anderson scented blood and, out-duelling Federer time and again, he broke in the seventh game to level the match at two sets all. Federer double-faulted on 30-30, then drove a shot into the net on 40-30 to turn the advantage to Anderson.

Croatia have reached this stage before in 1998 when a team featuring Davor Suker and Slaven Bilic knocked out Germany in the quarter-finals before eventually losing to winners France in the semi-finals.

"I've met quite a few of those players and we know exactly how they're held and perhaps, in the modern era, that would be even crazier". They are confident and have a young team.

Corcoran said England started well but Croatia was stronger in the end.

"Unfortunately our dream has been postponed, and it is very painful for all of us that after so much work and dedication on the part of each player, technical commission, and staff, there is huge pain", he wrote. It wasn't about having a good tournament, it wasn't about being happy to be in the top four, so it's a really sad dressing room right now because the opportunity of being in the final was the only focus that we had. "The over-under on total goals scored in this 2018 World Cup fixture is 2".

Following the relatively stress-free 2-0 quarter-final win over Sweden and with no fresh injury worries or suspensions, the smart money would be on Southgate selecting the same XI for Wednesday's last-four tie with Croatia.

"We played better than we did against Argentina".
