Federer? Djokovic? Nadal? Greg Rusedski predicts how Wimbledon 2018 will end

Nadal faces the victor of Juan Martin del Potro and Gilles Simon while Federer takes on US Open finalist Kevin Anderson in the quarterfinals.

"Down two sets to love I tried my best to keep fighting". But Anderson held his nerve to level up and then produced a remarkable surge in form to take Federer deep into the fifth set. "I kept on telling myself, keep believing, today is my day".

"You are reluctant to write Roger off - just the way that he moves around the court and he stays injury free", said the Australian, who won the title in 1987. "Matches likes that are very special".

Roger Federer crashed out of Wimbledon after a marathon five-set shoot-out with big-serving Kevin Anderson in the quarter-finals.

He next faces two-time champion Rafael Nadal or fifth-seeded Juan Martin del Potro in his first Grand Slam semifinal since the 2016 U.S. Open.

In the process, Anderson ended two impressive streaks by Federer - 34 consecutive sets won at the All England Club, tying his own record, and 85 service games here without being broken.

From there, the tall and powerful Anderson kicked on whilst Federer stalled.

Deploying his huge serve to lethal effect, Anderson roared back to leave the champion's title bid in tatters thanks to a barrage of 28 aces and 65 winners.

When Anderson broke in the second set it was the first time the Swiss had dropped serve at this Wimbledon. It's the second-farthest he's advanced in a Grand Slam tournament, having made the final of the US Open in 2017.

Not since Wayne Ferreira in 1994 had a South African man made the Wimbledon quarter-finals, but Anderson wasn't overawed by the occasion.

Federer responded, quickly breaking back before taking the set in a tie-break.

But Anderson was just getting started.

Anderson staved off Federer's first and only attempt at match point, trailing 5-4 in the third set, before winning the game to tie the set at 5-5 and ultimately winning the next game to take a 6-5 lead.

He then let rip at Ramos for failing to sanction Nishikori for a similar act in the fourth set. In the penultimate game, Federer hit a shot that went close to the line, the crowd gasped but Anderson was able to get the ball back in play.
