Europe rejects alliance with China to fight Trump on trade

The U.S. diplomat at the meeting said the matter was already the subject of formal disputes at the WTO, so it should not be on the committee's agenda, the official who attended the meeting said.

Over 40 World Trade Organization members are warning the Trump administration that US auto tariffs could seriously disrupt the world market.

CHINA'S embassy in Washington has issued a security advisory to Chinese nationals travelling to the United States, the latest such warning as trade tensions escalate between the two countries.

"We will never fire the first shot and will not implement tariffs ahead of the United States", the Ministry of Finance said in a statement late Wednesday, after media reported that Beijing would start levying tariffs hours ahead of the USA due to the time zone difference.

"We agree with nearly all the complaints the USA has against China, it's just we don't agree with how the United States is handling it", another diplomat said.

China's Foreign Ministry, when asked on Tuesday if the timing of the alert was politically motivated, said summer was the high season for Chinese going to the USA and that its embassies had an obligation to warn citizens about potential risks overseas.

The Trump administration's tariffs on $34 billion of Chinese imports are due to go into effect at 12.01 am eastern time on Friday (0401 GMT Friday), which is just after midday on Friday Beijing time. China's list is created to inflict pain on US farmers and other groups that are important to President Donald Trump's political base.

"As terrorist attacks, political violence (including demonstrations), criminal activities, and other security incidents often take place without any warning, US citizens are strongly encouraged to maintain a high level of vigilance and practice good situational awareness when traveling overseas", it said.

"While the Trump administration is anxious about gains and losses, Chinese people have unfaltering confidence in China's future".

"The fundamentals of the Chinese economy at present are good", he said.
