Ozil quits international football over ‘racism disrespect’ from German DFB

Germany's prolific forward Mesut Ozil delivered a shocker to the football world on Sunday after announcing his with-immediate-effect retirement from global football, citing racism and disrespectful treatment from DFB, the country's football authority.

German football star Mesut Ozil has spectacularly retired from the worldwide team following claims of racism and discrimination.

The two players were booed by German fans in pre-World Cup friendlies over their appearance with the Turkish strongman, and Ozil said Sunday that he and his family had received threats.

"That is not why I play football, and I will not sit back and do nothing about it. Racism should never, ever be accepted", he said.

After the tournament, Ozil came in for stinging criticism by DFB officials and German politicians across the spectrum.

"German media are writing that the Mannschaft lost because of Ozil".

Ozil's news were met with great sadness by his fans, who thanked him for his work with the German national team over the years.

Jan Aage Fjortoft hailed Mesut Ozil for his contributions to the German national side, and sarcastically congratulated those who "bullied" him into his retirement.

The 29-year-old released a lengthy three-part statement on Sunday in which he defended his decision to meet with Turkey President Recep Tayyip Erdogan prior to the start of the World Cup.

Russia: Republicans move to impeach Deputy AG Rosenstein
Democrats have argued that House Republicans clashes with Rosenstein are little more than a pretext to weaken Muellers efforts. Multiple Republican members of Congress have filed articles of impeachment against Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein .

Hitting out at the German media for criticising his Turkish ancestry, Ozil said, "They didn't criticise my performances, they didn't criticise the team's performances, they just criticised my Turkish ancestry and respect for my upbringing".

The most prominent German politician of Turkish origin said it would be hard for the head of the national soccer association to stay in the role, adding that Ozil's departure would only be welcomed by those who opposed diversity.

Ozil attended the event with fellow Germany worldwide Ilkay Gundogan.

Germany's football association, the DFB, was among those to criticise Ozil after he had his photograph taken with Erdogan.

It further stated that "It is regrettable that Mesut Ozil felt that he had not been sufficiently protected as a target of racist slogans".

"I will no longer stand for being a scapegoat for his incompetence and inability to do his job properly", Ozil said, claiming that Grindel had made "unforgivable and unforgettable" comments about immigrants and Muslims in the past.

Germany team boss Oliver Bierhoff suggested Ozil should have been dropped after his failure to clear up the Erdogan meeting.

Foreign Minister Heiko Maas cautioned against reading too much into the case. "I think everyone involved in this case should reflect".
