He told reporters the four rescued boys were taken to the hospital in the town of Chiang Rai, the provincial capital, for evaluation, and the next phase of the operation will resume after about 10-20 hours.

On Sunday, officials waited until several hours after the rescued boys had been transported to hospitals to announce their rescue.

On Monday afternoon, Osatanakorn said the same group of divers involved in Sunday's rescue operation had entered the cave at 11 a.m. local time to rescue the group still stuck inside.

Thailand's Interior Minister Anupong Paojinda said the divers who took part in Sunday's rescue were also conducting the current operation.

Hundreds of spectators and journalists have gathered in the area around the cave, hoping for news that the boys and their coach would emerge safely.

An worldwide team of expert divers-90 in all, 40 from Thailand and 50 from oversees-have been working in the area. The boys and their coach went exploring in the massive Tham Luang Nang Non cave on June 23 after a soccer practice, and were cut off when a rainstorm flooded the cave.

Narongsak said he was not sure if the remaining five people will be extracted in one or more operations.

Speaking to NBC's "Today" on Monday, he said: "The main challenge is that we are dealing with young kids that are in no way trained to do cave diving".

Officials said Sunday that it may "take days" to bring all 12 boys and their coach to the surface. Now waiting to receive 4 divers to come out. The only way out of the cave at this time would be for the boys to dive through the same complicated route of narrow passageways that their rescuers entered, something that is extremely unsafe even for expert divers let alone children with no such experience.

"You start to hallucinate, you see things, you hear things", said Dr. Robert Glatter, emergency physician at Lenox Hill Hospital.

The names of the rescued boys were not released. Jesada said they were uncertain what type of infections the boys could face "because we have never experienced this kind of issue from a deep cave".

Officials lavished praise on the Thai and global divers who, in pairs of two, executed the unsafe rescue mission, guiding the boys, who could barely swim and had no diving experience, through a treacherous 2½-mile-long escape route that twisted and turned through the cavern. Eight players remain in the cave with their 25-year-old coach. Some are not even strong swimmers, and have had to learn to dive in conditions that claimed the life of a former Thai Navy SEAL on Friday.

The four boys pulled from the cave Sunday in an urgent and unsafe operation that involved them diving through the cave's tight and twisting passages were in good health.

"Our job is not completely done", Mr Narongsak said. An ambulance was seen leaving the scene immediately afterward early Monday evening.
