Tiger Woods is back after missing the cut at the U.S. Open, and he's gone up the leaderboard at the Quicken Loans National at TPC Potomac, which is a tournament he hosts.

On the 13th, he sank an 18-footer for a birdie and followed that up with an eagle 2 on the Par-4 14th, when he drove the green and landed inside 10 feet and holed the eagle putt.

Francesco Molinari fired a sensational final round 62 on Sunday as he cruised to a maiden PGA Tour title by eight-strokes at the Quicken Loans National. Woods tied for fourth, his best result since a runner-up finish at the Valspar Championship three months ago, though he was 10 shots behind.

Molinari picked the PGA Tour because he was No. 123 in the FedEx Cup and wanted to improve his position, especially after missing the Tour Championship by what amounted to one shot previous year.

Woods played Saturday with Joel Dahmen.

The 14-time major victor ended with a final round of 66 and has only finished higher once since August of 2013, when he tied for second at the Valspar Championship in November.

Jul 1, 2018; Potomac, MD, USA; Francesco Molinari of Italy lines up a putt on the seventh green during the final round of The National golf tournament at TPC Potomac at Avenel Farm. The Swede started the day seven shots behind compatriot Marcus Kinhult but he birdied two of his last three holes to finish at 7-under 277, just ahead of Scotland's Russell Knox, England's Chris Wood, and Julian Suri of the United States.

For his trouble Molinari took home a winner's check for $1,278,000 and 500 FedEx points.

Former captain tips England to win World Cup
There is an optimism in the air that this time we won't exit the World Cup so embarrassingly, we might even go all the way. There's no squabbling in the camp, there's no cliques in the camp".

Tiger Woods roars back with strong round, in contention at Quicken
Landry shot his 63 in the morning when the TPC Potomac at Avenel Farm was soft, though still punishing with its thick rough. Francesco Molinari and Billy Horschel are T-4 at 8 under, Zac Blair is alone in sixth at 7 under and Kevin Streelman, C.T.

The 35-year-old began the final round level with Mexico's Abraham Ancer on 13 under but carded six birdies and an eagle to win from American Ryan Armour.

And then he opened the back nine with a pair of birdie chances just inside 10 feet and missed the both. He has five wins on the European Tour and is coming off his best year financially on the PGA Tour, having collected almost $2.9 million in 2017 with five top-10s. Molinari previously won the HSBC Champions in 2010, a World Golf Championships event in Shanghai. "I want to finish strong, but as I said, it is just better not to expect anything".

"It feels good. Even my bad putts still had the "go in" look", Woods said.

Molinari signed with Bettinardi at the start of the year and has worked closely with famed putter maker Robert Bettinardi to create the best model for his game. "It was a lot easier than I thought". The top eight golfers in the standings are Brooks Koepka, Dustin Johnson, Patrick Reed, Justin Thomas, Bubba Watson, Jordan Spieth, Rickie Fowler and Bryson Dechambeau.

In comments after his round, Woods said he was frustrated he didn't end up 10-under, which he thought he could have achieved on the back nine.

Champions - David Toms made one long putt to take the lead, then another one to preserve it on his way to a one-shot victory at the US Senior Open in Colorado Springs.

"I'm not that far away from putting it together where I can win", Woods said on Friday.
