Trump visit: London on LOCKDOWN as trip to spark protests

The state visit has never been scheduled - there is fierce opposition to it in many quarters of Britain - and this trip is part of a working visit instead, meaning, among other things, that Trump will overnight at Winfield House, the USA ambassador's handsome residence near Regents Park rather than in Buckingham Palace or Windsor Castle as a guest of the queen.

"I would say Brexit is Brexit", he said.

The visit is seen as crucial at setting the course for a closer trading relationship between the two countries.

A giant balloon depicting Donald Trump as an angry baby wearing a nappy will not be allowed to fly over his Scottish golf resort while he is staying there, police have said.

Earlier today Trump gave an extraordinary press conference in Brussels after giving North Atlantic Treaty Organisation leaders a bruising over defence cash, where he wrote off protesters and said Theresa May's Brexit deal probably wasn't what Britons voted for. "But I believe the people in the UK, Scotland, Ireland - as you know I have property in Ireland, I have property all over - I think that those people, they like me a lot and they agree with me on immigration".

Dubbed "Trump Baby", the huge, orange inflatable will rise above Parliament Square for around two hours to coincide with the president's four-day tour.

Mrs May will host Mr Trump and his wife Melania at a lavish dinner at Blenheim Palace tonight.

His schedule involves a black tie dinner at Blenheim Palace with United States and UK business leaders and cabinet ministers, hosted by May.

While she hopes the Trump visit will focus on trade and strengthening security ties, it is likely to be heavy on rhetoric about the transatlantic "special relationship" and short on specifics such as any details of a post-Brexit trade deal.

He is due to stay overnight at the ambassador's Winfield House residence in London's Regent's Park, where demonstrators plan to play recordings of migrant children held in U.S. detention centres.

We're going to celebrate, to rest and then we will prepare for France. "I'm still heartbroken and never felt so gutted". He said: "It feels incredible, especially after everything that was said about us before the game".

The couple walked past the ecstatic royal fans standing five deep against crash barriers, greeting as many of them as they could. Later in the evening, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex attended a reception held at the British Ambassador to Ireland's home.

The ministry said it "solemnly protests" the latest tariff list published by Washington, calling it "totally unacceptable".

Trump's itinerary will keep him out of central London on Friday, when large protests are planned.

The President and his First Lady were met on the tarmac by US Ambassador Woody Johnson and UK Trade Secretary Liam Fox before he was whisked off to Johnson's house near Regent's Park.

10 Downing Street said she would be meeting with schoolchildren and veterans on Friday, accompanied by Philip May, U.K. Prime Minister Theresa May's husband.

Tomorrow, May and Trump will visit an unnamed defence site to view a demonstration of UK military capabilities, as a showcase of integrated UK-US military training.

Mr Trump will instead be ensconced at Windsor Castle, west of London on Friday when a blimp tethered next to the Houses of Parliament.

Trump is due to leave Britain on Sunday for talks in Helsinki the following day with Russian President Vladimir Putin, whose government stands accused by May's of unleashing a lethal nerve agent in the city of Salisbury.

Trump is not expected to spend time in central London.

"But from the public, the welcome will be far from warm", he added saying there would be protests across the country against Trump's "abysmal record on human rights, his repugnant attitude towards women and his disgusting treatment of minorities".

Smaller demonstrations are also expected to be held around the United Kingdom, including cities like Devon, Dundee, Edinburgh, Belfast, Norwich, Manchester, Leeds and Liverpool.
