It comes after a string of resignations following the weekend cabinet meeting where the prime minister believed she had reached a consensus on her Brexit plans.

Johnson´s dramatic resignation on Monday just hours after Brexit minister David Davis quit late on Sunday plunged the value of the pound on currency markets.

With less than nine months left until Britain is due to leave the bloc, May is sticking to her plan for a "business friendly" Brexit.

He added that plans to create a common rulebook for goods and agrifoods "will make it much more hard to do free trade deals" - a key goal of the Brexit supporters.

But Parliament would oversee the UK's trade policy and have the ability to "choose" to diverge from the European Union rules.

Late on Monday evening, she pieced together a new Cabinet.

Other ministers described the meeting as "very good".

"In a vote of confidence in the House of Commons I would support the Prime Minister that's because I don't want to have another General Election, there isn't a vote of confidence in either case at the moment, I don't think many people want another election, we only had one a year ago".

May must now quickly seek European Union support for her Brexit proposal. These have all but stalled because of her reticence of show her cards until now for fear of angering one of the two main factions of her party.

"It is as though we are sending our vanguard into battle with the white flags fluttering above them", Johnson wrote in a letter that underscored his credentials as a champion of full-speed Brexit. Euroskeptic Conservative lawmaker Peter Bone said party activists felt "betrayed" by the government plan.

Brexit has been a source of intense confusion and uncertainty pretty much since the vote got passed back in 2016, but this week has been manic even by normal standards. However, should she survive such a challenge, Conservative Party rules prevent her opponents from making another try to unseat her for at least a year.

Mrs May told MPs that the plan agreed by the cabinet at Chequers was the basis of a "responsible and credible" offer to restart renegotiations with the EU. The Daily Telegraph newspaper ran a photograph on Tuesday of him, pen poised, resigning as foreign minister.

The campaign is fighting to give the public the final say on Brexit, a deal that is "too big to be ignored by the people".

The Brexit "dream is dying, suffocated by needless self-doubt", he said in the letter, which he posted to Twitter.

The two resignations have caused frustration in Brussels, with both the EU's most senior officals - Donald Tusk and Jean-Claude Juncker - venting anger at a press conference after an EU-Ukraine summit. "Brexit must and will happen".

May said that was the "only way to avoid a hard border" between the U.K.'s Northern Ireland and European Union member Ireland.

"I like Theresa May, I think she's a good prime minister", Davis said.
