Democratic Senators Issue Last-Minute Warnings About Trump's Supreme Court Pick

President Donald Trump has decided on his nominee to the Supreme Court after spending Monday morning working the phones primarily seeking input about two judges who were said to be the finalists, Brett M. Kavanaugh and Thomas M. Hardiman, people familiar with the discussions said.

The Judicial Crisis Network is set to launch an advertising blitz in an attempt to pressure red state Democratic senators to support President Donald Trump's pick for the Supreme Court, The Hill is reporting.

Arizona Cardinals owner Michael Bidwill and New York Yankees General Manager Brian Cashman endorsed former classmate Brett Kavanaugh, President Trump's nominee for the Supreme Court, in a letter to Senate leaders. He is among the best and brightest jurists on the appellate courts with a reputation of being fair and impartial in his decisions. "Judge Kavanaugh clearly understands the proper role of a judge is to interpret the law as it is written and apply the law impartially". Of the court's liberal justices, Ruth Bader Ginsburg is 85 and Stephen Breyer turns 80 next month, so Trump may well get another opportunity to cement conservative dominance of the court for years to come.

The fact that the president chose another conservative justice is more important than the name of that justice.

Democrats who plan to oppose Trump's nominee are focusing on two Republican moderates, Susan Collins of ME and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, hoping to turn them against Trump's selection.

Some conservatives lobbied against him, worrying that his upbringing in the suburbs of D.C. could mean he'll be the kind of justice who has disappointed conservatives before. "Casey is refusing to even consider the President's #SCOTUS nominee".

Judge Kavanaugh has served as a judge on the US Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit since 2006, authoring more than 300 opinions, including 11 that have been affirmed by the Supreme Court.

A George W. Bush appointee to his current position, Kavanaugh had worked as counsel and staff secretary in the White House before his nomination.

Former GOP Sen. Kelly Ayotte of New Hampshire helped shepherd Neil Gorsuch, Trump's pick to replace the late Justice Antonin Scalia in 2017, through his successful confirmation process.

He attended Yale University.

Kavanaugh and his wife Ashley have two daughters.
