Listeria outbreak: Lidl recall MORE vegetables over deadly bacteria | Daily Star

A number of frozen vegetable brands sold at Aldi, Woolworths and IGA stores were recalled from supermarkets across Australia over fears of potential contamination by the listeria bacteria.

When you're cooking up a storm and you still have to put the pot of rice on the stove, it can be a bit of an effort.

Most of the products taken off the shelves are own-brand vegetable mixes, and 11 total cases of listeria have so far been identified in the UK.

Woolworths said no other frozen sweetcorn or vegetable products were affected.

So there were definitely people out there out there throwing bags of frozen rice into their trollies and saying thank you to the retailer for making their life easier.

The people most at risk from listeriosis include those suffering from cancer, pregnant women and their unborn babies, newborn babies, and elderly people.

Australian Institute of Food Science and Technology food scientist Gary Kennedy said the recall was a necessary but cautious exercise because risk of illness was only present if frozen vegetables with listeria were consumed uncooked by a vulnerable section of the population.

There is concerns the products have possible microbial (Listeria monocytogenes) contamination.

Earlier this year six people sadly died, in New South Wales and Victoria, after consuming contaminated rockmelon, with the outbreak being traced back to Rombola Family Farms in the Riverina region.

But after the 44 products were recalled - Lidl has now issued another recall for 640g bags of Green Grocer Carrots, Broccoli and Sweetcorn.

"We endorse the advice to cook frozen products until it has reached 70°C and stayed at that temperature for at least two minutes".

The food chain reportedly said its food products are independently tested at random. "As a producer of frozen vegetable products, we recommend our customers to include cooking instructions on each packaging".
