Xherdan Shaqiri of Switzerland in action during of the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia Round of 16 match between Sweden and Switzerland

Signed from Inter Milan by former Stoke manager Mark Hughes for £12m in August 2015, Shaqiri has openly admitted that he would look to leave after the club's drop into the Championship.

Shaqiri's involvement at the World Cup ended last week when Switzerland were knocked out of the tournament by Sweden.

The Echo reports that Shaqiri would prefer a move to Liverpool and Stoke are hopeful that selling the Swiss global to the Reds would mean they would be more willing to loan out one of Harry Wilson and Sheyi Ojo.

There is a release clause in his contract - understood to be around £13m - and Liverpool are discussing the details on that with the club.

Liverpool are confident that they will sign Swiss global Xherdan Shaqiri this summer, according to a report in The Guardian.

Is there a Supreme Court sign in these tea leaves? Tennessee's senators were complimentary of President Trump's pick for the U.S. The White House would love to have the Democrats' votes for confirmation. "They didn't care who the president appointed".

Shaqiri has indicated that he wants the move which should be sealed before the Reds head off to the United States as part of their pre-season plans.

Klopp's side reached the Champions League final last season but finished a distant 25 points behind record breaking champions Manchester City.

It remains to be seen whether the pursuit of Shaqiri will be instead of, or as well as, Nabil Fekir, the Lyon attacking midfielder who Liverpool have been chasing for several months.

Liverpool's summer transfer window is about to get even more interesting now that the World Cup is close to coming to an end.

Naby Keita and Fabinho are the only two major signings made by the Reds so far this summer.
