007 producers hint at Idris Elba filling James Bond's shoes

Apparently series producer Barbara Broccoli has been speaking to director Antoine Fuqua (Training Day, The Equalizer) about the franchise, and he revealed that she said "it is time" for a non-white actor to take the role.

After much speculation, Daniel Craig signed up for his fifth go-round as James Bond earlier this year, announcing that he'd be teaming with Oscar-winning director Danny Boyle (Slumdog Millionaire, Trainspotting) on a sequel set to debut in theaters in November 2019.

HuffPost reached out to Elba, Fuqua and Broccoli to confirm the report, but none of their camps immediately commented.

The conversation was said to have included Elba, saying the film needed "a guy with a physically strong presence".

"Idris could do it if he was in shape", Fuqua said. He would also be 47 when Bond 26, in theory, would begin filming. I think he is probably a bit too "street" for Bond. "LETS GO." - while television and film producer Robert Schooley tweeted that Elba is a natural choice for Bond: "Of course Idris Elba should be James Bond, do we even need to pretend there's a question here?" It's not a color issue. I think that now that I have my Mission: Impossible badge we can do real stunts and really amp it up as well...'
