iPhone chip maker Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. saw several of its factories knocked offline Friday night because of a virus, but it's unclear whether production of the iPhone components was affected, said a report Saturday by Bloomberg.

A critical partner for the launch of the new iPhone the Company is able to volume produce of 7mm chips, which will drive performance while limiting energy usage in the new iPhones.

"Data integrity and confidential information were not compromised".

Digitimes notes that at Fab 15 TSMC is ramping up 7nm chip output to fulfill orders from mainly Apple, although other companies including AMD, Qualcomm, Nvidia, Xilinx, and various ASIC developers. "TSMC has taken actions to close this security gap and further strengthen security measures", Chief Financial Officer Lora Ho said by phone Sunday.

TSMC expects to have all its factories back to normal by Monday, but exact impact on supplies for new iPhone models is not yet known.

TSMC said that third-quarter shipments delays would be recovered next quarter.

TSMC, short for Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company, is the main manufacturer of processors for Apple's (AAPL) iPhones and iPads.

The virus affected TSMC's computer systems and fabrication tools in Taiwan. The details will be communicated with each customer individually over the next few days, it said.

The company says the incident will cut third-quarter revenue by about 3 per cent.

Shares in TSMC in Taipei were down 1% in late morning trading on Monday. Chief Executive Officer C C Wei had said TSMC's sales will rise this year by a high single-digit percentage in USA dollar terms, down from an already reduced projection of about 10 percent.
