Couple jailed for selling son to paedophiles on dark web

A Swiss citizen and three German men who also abused the boy, now aged 10, were jailed between eight to ten years.

A woman and her partner in southern Germany were on Tuesday (Aug 7) sentenced to jail for selling her young son to paedophiles on the darknet.

A German court handed down lengthy jail sentences to Berrin Taha (held by policeman) and her husband Christian Lais (sitting left) for pimping their son online.

Her partner Christian Lais, the boy's stepfather whom he called "papa", received a 12-year sentence followed by preventive detention.

The 48-year-old woman and 39-year-old man were accused of repeatedly abusing and raping the boy, now 10, filming the abuse, and selling him to other men on the "dark net", an area of the internet that can be visited only by using special software.

On Monday, a Spanish man was sentenced to 10 years after he paid the couple in order to abuse the child.

The abuse was filmed, and police were alerted to the case and arrested the pair in 2017.

Baby's body pulled from water near Brooklyn Bridge
Diana Campbell took video and photos of the scene, hoping the images would be helpful in identifying the infant. A family visiting from Stillwater, Oklahoma, spotted the boy, about eight months old, at about 4pm Sunday.

They were both sentenced to 12 years in prison in a case that has horrified the country.

German prosecutors have also gone after other suspected members of the pedophile ring.

The Freiburg court also ordered the two abusers to pay 42 500 euros (49 200 dollars) in damages to the boy and a young girl, another victim in the case.

The twisted pair and six others were part of a pedophile ring that was busted past year following an anonymous tip.

Local authorities have been accused of failing to protect the boy from his abusive parents, after officials removed him from his home, but returned him back weeks later.

The couple was charged with "nearly 60 acts, including forced prostitution, verbal intimidation and abuse, extreme humiliation, physical bondage and rape", DW reports.

He also made serious accusations against the child's mother, who confessed to the crimes but remained largely silent about any possible motive during the trial.
