First Lady's Parents Become US Citizens

Melania Trump's parents are sworn in as U.S. citizens

President Donald Trump should have been moved this week when our nation of immigrants accepted two new Americans: first lady Melania Trump's parents, Amalia and Viktor Knavs.

"This golden experiment, these doors that are in America, remain hinged open to handsome people as they have today", Wildes said after the ceremony.

US President Donald Trump often rails against family-based immigration in his rallies, frequently reminding his audience of the October terror attack in NY, where Sayfullo Saipov, an immigrant from Uzbekistan plowed a pickup truck down a bike lane, killing eight people near the World Trade Center. Security guards and U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services workers in offices adorned with President Trump's portrait said they were unaware of anyone being sworn in there on Thursday. "This is an example of it going right".

The First Lady wears an nearly "naked" dress while accompanying her husband to the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation summit. Stephanie Grisham, a spokeswoman for the first lady, declined to comment on the Knavses' citizenship proceedings or whether the first lady supports her husband's efforts to limit family-based sponsorship.

Since initial reports emerged in February that the Knavses had obtained permanent residency in the United States, there has been a lack of clarity about when or how the couple received green cards.

Advocates for restricting legal immigration have pointed to the imbalance in favor of family connections as evidence of the need for reform, calling for a "merit-based" system that would choose immigrants based on need in the US.

The US allows a number of ways for US citizens and legal permanent residents to sponsor family members to come to the US permanently, including categories for parents, adult siblings and adult children, married and unmarried.

Hamas fires rockets, Israel bombs Gaza despite talk of truce
Clashes along the Gaza border since the end of March have seen at least 160 Palestinians killed by Israeli fire . It said the Palestinian resistance had fired a large number of rockets at "enemy positions in the Gaza envelope".

The Knavses' citizenship ceremony was kept hush-hush at the Jacob K. Javits Federal Building.

The Knavses are from Slovenia, but now divide their time between New York City, Palm Beach, and Washington, D.C., where they stay with the Trumps in the White House.

Wildes wouldn't say how long the Knavses have lived in the US.

He went on: "It seems like we now have two immigration systems".

She attended high school in the Slovenian capital, Ljubljana, and changed her name to Melania Knauss when she started modelling.

Melania Trump became a US citizen in 2006 after marrying Trump the year before.
