The Trump administration just announced tariffs on another $16 billion in Chinese imports to the U.S.

March 22:Trump announces plans to hit$50 billion worth of Chinese goods with a 25% tariff.China announces tariffsin retaliation to the steel and aluminum duties and promises a response to the latest United States announcement.

The dispute has continued to escalate as the sides exchange threats, and Trump last week threatened to jack up the tariff rate on the next $200 billion in Chinese imports it plans to target to 25 percent, from the planned 10 percent.

The revised Chinese list released today added hundreds of new items to be hit with tariffs, and now covers items as diverse as coal, medical instruments, waste products, cars and buses.

The headline numbers are the first readings of the overall trade picture for the world's second-largest economy since U.S duties on $34 billion of Chinese imports came into effect on July 6.

Washington applied a 25% tariff on Chinese imports including airplane tires and various industrial parts.

Trump administration announces $22b in fresh tariffs on China
But within days, Trump himself backed away from the deal, saying talks would "probably have to use a different structure". Chinese state media, reflecting the government's stance, has said China will not be cowed in the face of U.S. threats.

We Will Grow What We Sow, Manchester United Boss Slams Transfer Board
The media speculate more about the drama than us players but we're not bothered. "Any help that can come from them is welcome". Of course, he respected the big [Wayne] Rooney and then Zlatan [Ibrahimovic] wanted to have it. "He said thank you".

The move is the latest escalation of President Donald Trump's trade war with China.

The decision follows Washington's announcement Tuesday that it will implement levies on $16 billion of Chinese products starting from the same date.

Year-on-year, the growth of China's exports to the USA slowed to 11 percent last month from 12.5 percent in June, while import growth accelerated to 11 percent from 9 percent.

Trump's aggressive trade actions have drawn sharp criticism from business and from members of his own Republican party, as well as numerous warnings that an continuing to ramp up the trade war will harm the United States and global economies.

The duties are part of a broader round of tariffs on $50bn worth of goods the U.S. announced in March.

The absence of China, the largest buyer of USA crude after Canada, is likely to partly weigh on US spot crude prices, making them more affordable for other buyers in Asia.

Mr Trump has said he would be willing to hit all of China's imports with duties.
